Garden Furniture
Making The Right Choice
Outdoor furniture allows you to create a comfortable and functional outdoor living space, making it possible to enjoy fresh air and natural surroundings. It also provides a space for entertaining guests and relaxing with family.
As most garden furniture sets are typically only used during the warmer months, we want to ensure you have all the information and tips required to care for your outdoor furniture and that you're able to enjoy it for many summer seasons.
If you're unsure or have any queries, we would recommend speaking with one of our furniture specialists to understand which would be the best choice for you and your lifestyle.
General Care
- Use a soft damp cloth to clean regularly, using a mild detergent and water.
- Specific metal cleaning products are available from established retailers.
- Never use abrasive chemicals or scourers for cleaning.
- Store in shelter or within protective coverings when not in use.
- Use parasols over dining sets on sunny days, to protect surfaces from prolonged direct sunlight.
Avoiding Surface Wear & Damage
- Outdoor furniture cushions are shower resistant, but not showerproof. Try to store away before any adverse weather and allow to fully dry before storing, to prevent mildew.
- You can apply protection to aid in preventing water damage, or rusting on metal furniture, if you wish.
- Do not rock backwards on chairs and ensure the seating is being used for its intended purpose.
- Carefully lift your furniture, never drag or push it.
- When lifting a table, always do so from the frame and not the tabletop.
- Do not place hot dishes, cups or plates directly onto a tabletop - use insulated mats as protection.
Metal
It is quite normal for metal products to develop surface rust, and this aged appearance is to be expected. The rust will not affect the integrity of the product but adds to a rustic patina. Most metal garden furniture is designed to age this way.
Outdoor products may age quicker in properties near the seaside, due to the increase of salt in the atmosphere.
